My version of Therapy
I am both “classically trained” - Counselling, CBT, NLP, Grief, etc. but also less so - I am a qualified Union Rep and Health and Safety Rep, so - So my overview of things are not purely from the mental health side of things. I know the responsibilities of employers and the government and am very familiar with the Equality Act that is so important to everyone’s right to care and respect. That, with many, many other experiences to my name, has formed a personal version of therapy / coaching called IPSA Coaching.
What is IPSA Coaching?
With regards to coaching you into a better mental healthy space in our context is: IPSA stands for Information, Position, Speed and Achievement
Information
This is the first stage and is often repeated during the coaching cycle. We gather the information we need about YOU. What is your history? What have you tried before? What and where do you want to be? You can share as much (Or as little) as you want to. As you’ll find out in the literature, CONFIDENTIALITY is absolute with me.
Position
Next is position. Where are you NOW. Are you in crisis? Are you feeling anxious? Depressed? How is your work/life balance? Where do you want to be in a month / year, etc?
Speed
Speed is very important to YOU. I don’t want to push you into a whirlwind of exercises and routines if you’re going to get more anxious or depressed with the situation.
Achievement
This is the successful arrival at the end of your journey. You’ve worked on yourself, hopefully you’ve overcome most, if not all of your problems.
IMPORTANT
IPSA is not a linear system. You start at Information, but after evaluating your Position, you may end up back at Information to fill in some blanks you (perhaps) didn’t even realise were there. Same with Speed. You may feel you’re not going fast enough, or too fast, so re-evaluate that. It can be a loop you go round as many times as you feel comfortable.
